The Short Term Illness and Injury Plan (STIIP) provides income continuation for a period not to exceed six months if an employee is unable to work because of illness or injury.

STIIP came into effect January 1, 1978 and replaced the previous Sick Leave Plan. STIIP, in combination with the Long Term Disability Plan, provides comprehensive disability income protection for an employee.

The cost of providing STIIP benefits is fully paid by the Employer.

STIIP is a plan that is self-administered by the Ministry or the Employer and, therefore, it is important for each Ministry or Employer to be aware of the plan provisions so that they will be able to apply them fairly. Disability Management Programs, BC Public Service Agency, provides support services, such as this site, and generally acts as coordinator for the plan to ensure there is consistent application of the plan throughout government and by the other participating employers.
